We at Elephant Asia Rescue & Survival Foundation (EARS Asia), a Hong Kong registered charity, have received devastating news regarding Kiri and Seila, the two beautiful elephants that EARS Asia (via our supporters' generous donations) have been caring for since 2012 at Teuk Chhou Zoo in Cambodia. The zoo owner allegedly no longer wants these elephants and they are to be sold to a zoo in Japan - a move we feel is inappropriate due to cold climate, welfare issues, and stress through overseas transportation.

Here at EARS Asia, we strive to protect the future of the Asian elephant. Cambodia’s elephant population is highly endangered with estimated numbers less than 500. Every single Cambodian elephant is precious to their survival.

Kiri and Seila are still in their early 20s with their lives ahead of them. They are well-known and loved deeply by thousands of people both locally in Cambodia and internationally. It has always been our hope that if, one day, these beloved elephants were to be relocated, they would be given the opportunity to live the life they truly deserve and reintroduced to the beautiful forests of Cambodia.

What has arisen out of this news about the possibility of Kiri and Seila being moved to the zoo in Japan is that we have been given an opportunity to transfer them both to “The Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary” (CWS) in Siem Reap. Other than giving Kiri and Seila the freedom they deserve this also means they will stay in Cambodia. CWS are extremely experienced in rehabilitating captive elephants, and for Kiri and Seila to be given this opportunity to be housed at their beautiful sanctuary would be a dream come true. We currently have everything required in place for this exciting relocation and reintroduction program. We are truly grateful for this offer from CWS and we thank them very much.

Given these circumstances we are potentially being faced with, we hereby respectfully request the Honorable Prime Minister of The Royal Kingdom of Cambodia and the Forestry Administration of the Government of The Royal Kingdom of Cambodia to revoke the decision for Kiri and Seila to be transferred to Japan and instead to give these elephants the life they truly deserve in the warmer climate of their native home. This is an exciting opportunity for Cambodia to be a World Leader in wildlife protection and conservation initiatives and we very much look forward to working with all parties concerned to realize this opportunity in providing freedom, for Kiri and Seila.

Please support us to “FREE KIRI AND SEILA” by signing this petition in which we humbly request for these elephants to remain in Cambodia and to be transferred to The Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary to live their lives in peace and in the beauty of their native Cambodia.

Thank you so much,
Hong Kong Office.
