Free Willie Mae Harris

The Issue

It's time for Governor Hutchinson to grant Willie May Harris executive clemency.

Charged with first-degree murder of her husband and offered a plea deal - 20 years - out in 13 for good behavior, Willie refused to admit to a crime she did not commit - a position she maintains today even after serving 34 years behind bars.

Now totally blind and celebrating her 72nd birthday in prison, Willie moves with the assistance of a cane and other inmates assigned to help her.  Chronic health issues aggravate the many challenges of being blind in prison.

Generations of Willie's family have been created during her absence. This large network of support stands ready and willing to give Willie Mae the care required in the remaining days of her life.

Consider her time served as justice served and grant Willie Mae Harris clemency.
