Support our horse riding for the disabled centre
The issue
The horse riding for the disabled centre at Burpengary, The Cartmill Centre, experiences issues with flood waters inundating the centre and stranding its horses. As the centre is managed by volunteers, it is highly problematic when this occurs. Moving the horses to higher ground is the plan, but this is difficult to do without physical and financial support. News reports in the media have shown this matter to evoke emotional responses from community members. Concerns have justly been focused on the wellbeing of the horses. The only option available at this point in time is to close the centre and move the horses away from this site. While this solves the horse issues during flooding, it opens up another problem: the loss of this service to people with disabilities.
Be aware that this closure means people with disabilities suffer.
Jacklyn Irwin, a user of this riding for disabled service, seeks your attention and support. Jacklyn says:
Riding for the disabled has made a major difference to the quality of my life. I recently learned that The Carthill Centre can no longer operate at its current location. This saddened me as it means I cannot go riding. People with disabilities need your support. Help us to find another place to set up horse riding. This matter requires your time and attention. Thank you.
