Hon Scott Morrison: Fairer taxes for every Australian
The issue
Please help every Australian Family by signing this petition. It is a disgrace and a matter of shame that people with high salary are given more options to save on taxes. They Earn More but pay less tax than an average Australian worker by paying everything using Pre-Tax Dollars. This scheme of Fringe Benefit Tax is a "rip-off" and is making a working family pay for the rich people to maintain their lifestyle while a common Australian is "living within their means". This is because many high wage earners in Australia are allowed tax saving measures (SALARY PACKAGING) which an average family needs but they are not provided. This petition is asking the Australian Government to make mortgage and utility bills and education as a part of salary packaging for an ordinary Australian family giving them an opportunity to save on taxes.
Remember - we all can claim tax deductions but only the high earners get the Salary Packaging option which significantly reduces their taxable income and an average family is paying for lifestyle expenses, mortgage, rent, private education, holidays of this section of society for a very long time.
As much as we respect and need the healthcare system, this is a RIP-OFF for an average Australian working family - pls read this article - http://www.communitycouncil.com.au/node/226
An example of this in the Healthcare industry for a salaried healthcare professional, Fringe Benefits/salary sacrifice options are being provided which is often up to 30% of their gross wage. (Source: http://www.imrmedical.com/australia-salaries-tax )

- FBT means (Fringe Benefits Tax)

In this system they first “sacrifice” a percentage of salary and then claim it back tax free when they spend on items which can include things like household mortgage or rent, petrol expenses, household utility bills, computers, holiday travel, all the way up to eating out at restaurants. On showing the receipts for these items, they can receive the income to the value of these receipts free of tax. The following chart shows an idea of salary earned by a health care professional after the Fringe Benefit Tax:

THIS IS BEFORE OVERTIME, PENALTY RATES ETC
Position Basic Salary Grossed up pay with salary packaging
Registrar 75,000 – 110,000 100,000 – 160,000
General Practitioner 150,000 – 350,000 195,000 – 515,000
Consultant (Specialist) 150,000 – 350,000 195,000 – 515,000
While Four Corners exposed “Panama Papers” and tax havens, tax havens created by Fringe Benefit Tax is being overlooked for many individuals while their lifestyle is being funded by other middle class struggling Australians who are not provided many means to lower their taxes. This is essentially creating a class of “working poor” as the tax burden is being shared largely by average middle class while rich are getting away with it either by salary packaging options or overseas “tax havens”.
As an ordinary working Australian family we are funding utility bills, mortgage, petrol bills, even holidays and children’s private school education fee for many professionals who already have a very high salary.
We have funded the lifestyles of the rich for long; why not give working families a way to lower their taxes as they have funded “chosen class” lifestyles for years. Essential items such as mortgage, utility bills, education should be on the list of salary sacrifice extended to working families and they should also be given a fair system and an opportunity to get out of the “claustrophobic taxes”. All we need is “political will” and your signature to this petition.
