Shut down puppy factories in Victoria

The Issue

Puppy factories are described as an intensive dog breeding facility that operates under poor conditions that fail to meet the animals' behavioural, social and physiological needs. They are places that don’t provide the dogs in their care with satisfactory food, water, grooming, vet care, exercise, play or affection. The living conditions are horrifically overcrowded and the housing is unhygienic. Puppy factories are a serious welfare issue in Victoria and is not just confined to puppy breeding - kittens are also bred for profit in similar appalling conditions.

It’s not only the welfare of the puppies that is a concern but the mothers of the puppies. Once the puppies are sold, their mothers are left behind to endure endless cycles of producing litters in these atrocious conditions. These poor dogs simply don’t get the chance to recover, leaving them with damaging ongoing health problems. Sadly, there are thousands of dogs and cats living in unacceptable conditions – literally being ‘bred to death’.

Responsible and ethical dog breeders in Victoria are well aware of puppy factories that find ways to not comply with existing legislations and animal welfare laws.

Sign this petition to let the Minister of Agriculture know how Victorians feel about this social issue and to put an urging pressure to truely shut them down. Even despite the laws and legislations currently in place, puppy factories are STILL happening and pose a big threat to the welfare and lives of puppies and dogs.
