Hawaii House Bill 2859 would allow for student employees to unionize and protect student workers' bargaining rights. Graduate Teaching Assistants and Graduate Research Assistants have not seen a salary increase since 2004, yet have been paying increasing costs of living, tuition and fees. Without collective bargaining rights, we are not able to effectively advocate for our own rights as state workers. It is time for change.
