Closing state roads Reformation and Lowman Home Barn Road will dramatically increase the danger and risk for our families, the approximately 4,500 neighbors, people of all ages, that surround the Heritage at Lowman retirement community.

With the closure of Reformation/Lowman Home Barn Road, our families will be forced to turn left at the intersection of Johnson Marina Road and 76, an already dangerous intersection and the site of many, many accidents on record with local authorities. Even with the newly-changed road angle and a traffic light installed, with this road closure, there will be increased risks and a bottleneck of traffic for persons heading to schools and businesses in Chapin as well as for those turning right to head to Irmo, Columbia or the interstate.

There is no way to speed down this short state road (Lowman Home Barn Road) with its four-way stop and the three speed humps added in recent years at taxpayer expense, and we have found no data regarding incident/accident reports showing any safety concerns for the Lowman residents.

Closure of these two roads will impact the safety of those of us who are Lowman's neighbors--neighbors whose parents and friends live in the retirement community, neighbors who transport children to and from schools, neighbors whose teenagers will be put at even higher risk as they drive to Chapin.  The closure will also greatly affect the traffic which will divert to Three Dog Road, already in bad physical shape, and endanger yet more parents and children at Lake Murray Elementary School, located on that road.

We want the Lowman administration to be aware that their actions to enclose its campus and close off Reformation and Lowman Home Barn Road is short-sighted and hurts the community around them.  We respectfully ask these roads please be kept open!
