Perkins Pringle started this petition to The Greater Houston Community and

Re-opening Rice University in a month would be a lapse in morality. Rice would put the Rice Community and the Greater Houston Community at risk to an unmanageable outbreak of COVID-19. We have already seen how the disease has ravaged communities worldwide. It is completely implausible to assume every member of the community will always take precaution which is necessary for the success of its current plan-of-action. It would be irresponsible to expose its students, administrators, on-campus staff, and professors, some of who already have underlying health conditions, to the virus responsible for the current global pandemic. Members of the Rice community will test positive for coronavirus even if Rice is to move forward with fully-online lectures: Imagine the nightmare Rice will be liable for by exposing those vectors to its population of students. If Rice re-opens, while we are currently seeing an alarming spike of cases in Houston, Rice will be complicit in overflowing the Texas Medical Center with an avoidable amount of patients. By signing this petition you will help us show our concern that reopening Rice will pose a terrible hazard to the Greater Houston community.
