Change the law to include Greyhounds as Canines

The Issue

According to Chapter 47 of Kansas State Laws: "Dog" means any animal which is wholly or in part of the species Canis familiaris but does not include any greyhound, as defined by K.S.A. 74-8802 and amendments thereto.  K.S.A. 74-8802 is a chapter of Kansas Laws that covers the gaming industry. No where in any part of that law is there any mention of any individual, agency, or comission that ensures the welfare of Greyhounds.  Greyhounds ARE dogs and deserve to be protected like any other canine in the state of Kansas.  The only reason Greyhounds are excluded as canines in Kansas's Pet Animal Welfare Act is because of the gaming industry.  I am not saying that every kennel does not care for Greyhounds; however I do not believe it is appropriate for the gaming comission and only the gaming comission to ensure these dogs are being cared for as defined by Kansas's Pet Animal Welfare Act.  What if someone who owned a retired racing Greyhound abused them?  Nothing, because the dog would be just a greyhound.  Missouri is in the news for being the puppy mill center of the United States and those owners are appropriately punished, but in Kansas greyhound puppies don't matter.   I would really appreciate any support I can get in order to get the attention of lawmakers in Kansas to correct this law.
