Stop the CT Nail Service Tax of 6.35% made effective July 1, 2011

The Issue

The CT sales tax increase on all nail services made effective on July 1, 2011, which includes manicure services, pedicure services and all other nail services, was issued mainly as a result of balancing the state budget. These higher taxes have oppressed all classes of Connecticut residents, including lower, middle and upper class citizens. During this tough economy, local small business owners and consumers have both been directly affected. These services are not “luxuries” by any means but rather necessary procedures that promote standards of hygiene and sanitation. These entrepreneurs are a great part of the local economies and small business networks in our CT towns.

Below is the new language I support and recommend be amended to the current law:

Manicure services, pedicure services and all other nail services are reissued its status among services not currently subject to tax.
