Smart Motorways with no hard shoulder cause deaths. There is no doubt about it.

Several Coroners are already against the. The Police who patrol the motorways are against them, and the drivers who use these motorways are against them. 

How many more deaths are going to occur because those who think they are safe simply don't know them.

I was a motorway Police Officer for 15 years of my 28 years on Traffic and lost two colleagues that I knew whilst on the hard shoulder with all the emergency lights lit but vehicles ran into them, and there were others around the UK, so what chance has anyone who breaks down in a "Live" lane. It's the Highways Agency who think that having a safety area every so often is okay, but cars don't break down where you want them to.  

Please help stop them and return to motorways with hard shoulders, at least there is a chance they are safe, but there's no chance without one.
