Student nurses are expected to complete approximately 2,300 hours of unpaid placement, study content on top of that, accommodate themselves, and pay for their own petrol/travel costs. If student nurses were to start getting paid, they would be given a better chance at affording basic essentials. Student nurses work just as hard as qualified nurses, yet they don’t get anything in return and don’t even get acknowledged by other staff, for example calling them “the student”. This adds more stress on student nurses on top of the stress of already being in university.
