Prevent Extinction in the Philippines

The Issue

Illegal trading or Illegal hunting has been setting the scene for a long time, and most of the Philippine citizens are unaware of this issue. Magnificent species that originated in this country are gradually decreasing to the point of extinction due to the atrocious acts of illegal poaching and trading. As being one of the countries that have some of the most biological diversity (In fact, 67% of the species residing in the country are present only in the Philippines), the illegal wildlife trade took a tremendous effect on this. The hunting for sport or trophy, skin for bags and accessories, body parts for medicine, even live animals for pet trading has driven well-known animals to the brink of extinction. To add on, the drive of political power to step up and enforce laws to protect these endangered species and their habitats. Here are a few critically-endangered species here in the Philippines:

Philippine pangolins - "The international trade of wild animals and plants, an estimated 740 Philippine pangolins were seized between 2000 and 2017. But in the next two years, the trade increased nine-fold— between 2018 and 2019, authorities intercepted an estimated 6,894 pangolins, representing 90% of all pangolins caught up in the illegal trade in the Philippines over the last two decades." Alberts (2020)
Philippine crocodile - Although the Philippine crocodile is nationally protected by law. These species are still critically endangered due to habitat problems and also Illegal hunting.
Philippine Eagle - Considered as one of the largest extant eagles of the world, the Philippine Eagle hangs on despite their brink of extinction with 400 pairs currently out in the wild here in the Philippines. Some conservationists predict that the numbers will decrease to 200 due to the lack of habitat and Illegal Trading.

Other than these three types of species, there are still more endangered animals who are in dire need of protection from these Illegal acts. With just YOUR sign for this petition, our VOICE will call out through the plains and field of the country. We will take a stand for the conservation of the country's threshold of wildlife and bring back the rate of biodiversity as before!
