Semira Hamouri started this petition to President of the Brussels-Capital Region Mr President Rudi Vervoort and

Since the corona pandemic, Brussels' parks have become more popular with young families and their kids. Making the streets around the parks kids-safe will save lives. Specifically around Parc Elisabeth Park in Brussels, the roadworks in the underlying tunnel Leopold II - Annie Cordy push all traffic to the surface - with cars  speeding up above 70km/h in a 30km/h zone. The Irish writer Eoghan Walsh and his little children almost got killed next to the Parc. This petition asks the government of Brussels and the local mayors of Koekelberg and Ganshoren to decide before the end of 2021 on the solutions:

1) Install infrastructure, not paint, before the end of 2021: red lights, bollards, separated cycle paths, protected pedestrian crossings and heightened crossroads including speedbumps (but not the Berlijnse kussen who are to small and make a lot of noise!), roadblocks, visual obstacles and red traffic lights at all pedestrian crossings and crossroads around the Parc to make the streets kid-safe and reduce traffic below the official 30km/h

2) Closure of the fatal crossing/left-turn from Jetselaan to Landsroemlaan A woman died on the crossroads of Avenue the Jette x Landsroemlaan in 2019. Close this crossroad: people who drive the Avenue de Jette and have to be at Av Gloires Nationales can easily turn some metres further at the secured roundabout in front of Chez Soje, 30 seconds further on the Jetselaan. Securisation of the crossroads of Avenue du Panthéon et Avenue de la Liberté.

3) Speed radars around the parc and specific police controls on traffic and trafficking in the parc to enforce the law of 30km/h

If this doesn't happen, we're afraid of another fatal accident. There was one two years ago, and this week the famous Irish beer reviewer Eogan Walsh almost got killed with his two toddlers.

This petition is in the news on Bruzz (in Nederlands) and La Derniere Heure (en français)

If we win, the parc will become kids-friendly, with place to play and enjoy the sun in all safety. The streets will be safer, with less accidents. Cyclists will have a secure path. And the neighbourhoud will be able to sleep again. Thank you so much for signing this petition! Please share it to family, friends and contacts!
