Free Alex Sodiqov Campaign Marks Two Months

Dear friends, colleagues, and supporters of Alex Sodiqov, We want to thank you for all the support you have shown for Alex’s freedom up until now. Tomorrow marks two months since Alex was first detained in Khorog, Tajikistan. As you may know, Alex was released on bail after being held in detention for over a month. However, the conditions of his release are highly restrictive: he cannot leave Tajikistan, he is not to have contact with anyone abroad, and he is at great risk of being rearrested and formally charged with treason. In essence, Alex remains under investigation, and most importantly not free. We are greatly appreciative of the continued efforts by all of you, from around the world, who have supported the petitions, open letters, and have sent in testimonials expressing your support for Alex. We are nearing our goal of 50 000 signatories, but we still need your help. Please encourage others to spread the word and sign the petition here . We will be printing off open letters to be sent to the Canadian and Tajik ministries in an event on August 18th at noon in the department of political science at the University of Toronto. Thank you once again for your efforts to secure Alex’s freedom. We hope that we can all celebrate Alex’s safe return to Canada before the beginning of the new academic year.
