Make it a serious criminal offence to steal someone’s Dog/Cat
The Issue
Everyday in the UK people’s Dogs/Cats, are being stolen. These are members of the family, however in the eyes of the law there is no specific offence for stealing a pet unlike a car or bicycle theft. This means dogs/cats are classed in the same way as low-value inanimate objects under the 1968 Theft Act.
As a result there is no time spent by the police investigating or charging anybody who does these hideous crimes, so there are no consequences for stealing a fur baby away from it’s human. This needs to change dogs/cats have a heart, and a brain and are worth much more than any material object and the law needs to be changed to recognise this. It needs to be treated as the serious crime it is.
It won’t ever stop the low life’s from taking what’s not theirs and tearing families apart but it would be more of a deterrent and maybe more would be reunited if it was investigated as a serious crime.
DOGS ARE NOT A LOW VALUE INANIMATE OBJECT - THEY ARE PRICELESS
