Let's work together to get rid of fur farms!
The Issue
In fur farms, animals are treated horribly. They are flayed before they're even a year old, and the conditions are not good, at all. In 2012, there were 301 fur farms in America, and based on some research, there are 400 fur farms in America as of April 2021, 275 of them being mink farms, and found in at least 23 states. Plus, only one state - California - has banned the sale of real fur. According to research, "When their pelts are at their prime, before they are one year old, the animals are gassed, electrocuted, beaten or have their necks broken." We need to get laws in place, laws that can stop the killing of animals like minks and foxes, along with the selling of their fur. Also, according to Illinois Statutes Chapter 520, any individual can pay $25 each year (before March 31) and they can, from then on, hold, possess, or engage in the breeding of any fur-bearing mammal, meaning they can also kill them. Only $25 a year, and any individual can kill as many fur-bearing mammals as they want for an entire year. In fact, the Netherlands, once the EU's second largest mink producer, passed a ban on fur farming that would have gotten rid of fur farming by 2024, but an early shutdown was declared in 2020 due to Corona Virus.
