Free award winning Myanmar journalists from jail in Bangladesh

The Issue

This petition demands the release of Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat. The two award winning Myanmar photojournalists have been jailed by Bangladeshi authorities since 7 September.

The photographers were on assignment to cover the Rohingya exodus in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh for German GEO magazine. The Bangladeshi authorities accuse the two of “espionage”.

Both of their important work on ethnic violence in Myanmar has been widely acclaimed and published internationally in reputed newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The Guardian and National Geographic. It is obvious that they are journalists and not involved in any kind of espionage.

We petition the Government of Bangladesh and relevant authorities to release Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat immediately from custody!
