Home Checks Mandatory For New Dog Owners

The Issue

The RSPCA attend over 100,000 cases of animal abuse a year in the uk alone, and a shocking 57% of these are dogs that are being mistreated and abused; this means that dogs are the highest percent of pets that are abused right now and a lot of these cases don’t even get reported.

A dog is supposed to be mans bestfriend yet so many dogs suffer and even die from abuse each year and it needs to change.

As of now there is no legal regulation that requires dog buyers to have their home checked or visited to see if they are suitable for a dog, this includes not having checks on the person to see if they are suitable to have a pet, this could be a large part of why there is so many abused dogs in the Uk.

Dog breeders send off 12 week old puppies (and sometimes younger) to people that they have maybe met twice and have no idea what sort of home they are going back to. This is why I would like to start a petition to make it a legal requirement for home visits before selling a dog, as well as a basic test for new dog owners simply to show that they do know the basic requirements to look after a dog.
I think having a system like this in place would lower rates of animal cruelty as well as putting less pressure on dog shelters that are over run by too many dogs to look after.
Anyone who could sign share or donate to this cause/petition to raise awareness would be brilliant as nobody would like to think of their own pet as abused so please help get a system in place that makes sure no puppy’s are knowingly sent off to a awful home.

Thankyou.
