Karl Cavanagh started this petition to The Government

In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, the UK government is proposing that many overseas NHS workers will have their work permits extended for one year. This offer is currently only available to foreign NHS workers whose permits are due to expire before 1st October 2020. This extension does not offer them or their families security for the future. Other foreign NHS workers whose permits expire after that date have even less security as no extension is presently being offered.

Regardless of how you feel about immigration in this country, these key workers are selfless, brave individuals who are helping us to combat a frightening and unknown illness, whilst placing themselves at risk. They deserve to be treated with our gratitude, respect and to feel secure about the future.  This country has the chance to offer all of these things with the stroke of a pen.

As a sign of our appreciation, lifelong or indefinite residency/work permits should be granted to all foreign NHS workers and their families, currently employed by the NHS. A condition of the offer could be that the permit is tied to working within the NHS.

Please support this proposal and help persuade the government to change their stance and adopt this easy and just measure that really will show these heroes that they are valued.

Sometimes warm words and clapping are not enough; let's offer them real security and gratitude.  Please get behind this idea as an important step to a better society.
