The Issue

When an animal is hit by a car and is injured or killed, the offender is only legally obligated to stop and report the incident if it involves one of the following animals:

  • Dogs
  • Horses
  • Cattle, eg cows
  • Pigs
  • Goats
  • Sheep
  • Donkeys and Mules

I want this law to be changed to include cats, and by gaining signatures I hope to gain the attention of someone who can enforce a change of this law and give cat owners like myself a peace to know that at least this is a reportable action. Who is to say that a cat is less loved and therefore isn't worth reporting?

In the early hours of Thursday morning January 7th, our family cat was hit by a car and unfortunately died. This is not the first time he had been hit by a car and the driver did not stop on either occasion, the first time causing severe injuries to him. This is why I want the law changed as it is as upsetting to lose a cat as would be to lose a dog, as they are still a huge part of the family.

Thank you for reading and I hope that you will join us in adding your signature to get this law changed.
