After your wonderful support, Myrtle has been granted leave to remain for 2.5 years on human rights grounds and will be able to renew her application again before it expires. You have made this possible and we cannot thank you enough! Myrtle and her family are now asking for your help in relation to another ill and vulnerable South African lady at risk of being taken from her loving family in the UK. As set out in the evening news on BBC South Today (on 5th July 2016), which quoted Myrtle’s case as an inspiration, Kerry-Anne Herselman escaped years of horrific abuse by lawfully leaving SA to join her mother, a British citizen, in the UK in 2010. She came here on an ancestry visa allowing her to work in the UK (as her grandfather is British) but became unable to work due to anxiety and depression (as well as a plethora of complex and rare medical conditions) which have effectively rendered her house-bound. Her mother (who survived the abuse and built a life in the UK) and aunt are looking after her. Kerry-Anne now risks being removed to South Africa on her own, away from her loving family, unable to work, unable to look after herself due to her medical conditions and at risk of renewed assault. Her family has made a passionate appeal for compassion by the Home Secretary on Change.org to allow her being looked after by her mother in the UK. Please kindly look at her Change.org petition and support her by signing if you can. You could make a big difference to another family that risks being torn apart. Kerry-Anne’s case is one of many cases who – like Myrtle – risk being removed from her family but have not met with compassion – yet. Your support can help this family who just want to care for Kerry-Anne when she needs their help most. Please consider signing and circulating her Petition. Thank you for your support! To update you on Myrtle’s petition, delivered to Downing Street in March 2016, we are still awaiting a date when a Parliamentary Debate to change the Adult Dependent Relative Rule will be set – yet, at present, the Rule continues to keep families apart.
