Stop Promoting Gregory Sherl

Stop Promoting Gregory Sherl
The Issue
The Good Men Project purports to be "fostering a national discussion centered around modern manhood and the question, 'What does it mean to be a good man'?" Yet, one of their contributors, Gregory Sherl, has been outed by multiple women as an abuser, both mentally and physically (read accounts HERE and HERE). As a contributor to GMP in the past and a believer in the goal to raise the discourse about what it means and can mean to be a man, I can not in good conscience be involved any longer with a site that promotes Sherl's work under these circumstances.
There has been discourse that Sherl's behavior is due to his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. These are insulting excuses. As someone who has written columns for GMP regarding struggling with mental illness (both OCD and Bipolar Disorder), the idea that a person's abusive behavior can be explained away by mental illness is insulting. There is NEVER an excuse for abuse. Suffering from any illness mental or otherwise is NOT an excuse for the mistreatment of others.
The undersigned ask for the Good Men Project to live up to its mission statement by refusing to publish Sherl's work, and removing his past work from the site. Do not denegrate the brave voices of the women who have come forward and those who have not by ignoring this matter. And do not belittle those who suffer from mental illness and strive everyday to be good examples for others who face similar battles. We call on GMP to be leaders and examples as they purport themselves to be.
