The goal of this petition is to change current cannabis laws so that cancer patients can access medical cannabis in the UK, via legal channels, as a stand-alone or complimentary treatment to fight their cancer, and to have cannabis removed from Schedule 1 so that scientists can prove that cannabis is medicine. 

I was diagnosed with advanced HER2+ breast cancer, present in the lymph nodes, in June 2019. My left breast and ten nodes were removed a month later, and I was offered a year of treatment, which included six months of chemotherapy (every three weeks), followed by six months of a new targeted therapy that also included chemotherapy drugs (weekly).

I chose to refuse this treatment and take a THC-rich form of cannabis oil known as Rick Simpson Oil, which I buy illegally from a lovely old gentleman who began growing cannabis to treat his advanced prostrate cancer around four years ago (he also refused conventional treatments). My ‘lovely old gentleman’ was anti-cannabis prior to his cancer diagnosis, yet now risks prison so that other cancer patients, including me, can access this life-saving medicine. This growing community of cancer patients are all, without exception, having successful results with RSO. The medicine works!

Despite the publication of more than 20,000 scientific papers, articles, and reports showing cannabis to be a powerful healing plant that plays a significant role in human health due to its interaction with our endocannabinoid system, the British government continues to insist that cannabis remains on schedule 1, thus determining the plant is without any medical or therapeutic value, is dangerous and has a high risk of abuse.

Cannabis use is also a class B drug, which means that anyone caught growing or consuming cannabis risks criminal charges that could lead to a prison sentence of up to 14 years.

 

WHAT SCIENCE SAYS RE CANNABIS AND CANCER:

Dr. Lynda Balmeaves, a guest-speaker at Canada's National Brain Tumour Conference in 2018, told the conference audience that science has repeatedly shown (so there are NO scientific doubts), that THC/CBD oils or extracts: 

1. Promote cancer cell death; prevent growth; prevent migration to another part of the body and prevent angiogenesis  across a RANGE of cancers. These include: brain (gliomas), breast, prostrate, lung, and others.

2. That THC down-regulates and controls glioma cell invasion (as it does in ALL other cancers studied) in stem cell (human) and mice models. (Guzman, 2003; Rocha et al., 2014).

3. There have been two small trials:

     a. Spain: THC was injected directly into the tumour in brain cancer, resulting in significant tumour reduction and prolonged life expectancy (Guzman et al, 2006).     

      b. UK: Unpublished Sativex trial (GWP). Advanced glioblastoma (brain tumour) patients given a throat spray with a 50/50 THC/CBD mix. The results again showed tumour reduction and a prolonged life of at least 200 days (note this is a very mild mix/administration and, in addition, these patients had a very short time left to live so these results are astounding).

PUBLIC TESTIMONIES about RSO

The number of people claiming to have successfully treated their cancer with high THC forms of cannabis oil has grown rapidly over the past few years, and they are shouting the truth about cannabis and cancer from the rooftops! You can find it all over the Internet. There are famous people, such as Oliver Newton-John and Tommy Chong​, cancer specialists​, members of the public​, Facebook groups, websites, blogs... too numerous to mention here, but ALL claiming the SAME THING - THC rich cannabis oils treat cancer! IMPORTANT NOTE: You DO NOT feel ANY of the effects of THC if the oil (or any cannabis treatment with THC) is taken in suppository form - something that is often not mentioned in articles and reports discussing THC.

MY LIFE! MY RIGHT!

While the medical world made need further scientific evidence re cannabis and cancer, I don't - and neither do many other people with cancer. There is just so much evidence out there. Also, cannabis is a natural, herbal remedy that is safer than any other medicine known to man - it has a 100% safety record that spans thousands of years - so there are no safety issues and never have been in relation to adult use. 

I am asking the British government to reform the U.K’s cannabis laws so that cancer  patients can access this life-saving medicine. A plant cannot be patented – it is part of nature and, as such, should be freely available to grow and consume by everyone. The British government has no right to withhold life-saving medicine from the British people. The U.K government has lied and misinformed people about cannabis, insisting the plant should be listed on schedule 1, while simultaneously furnishing the medical industry with patents and licenses so that they can exploit the medical cannabis market while keeping cannabis use illegal for ordinary citizens.

Global cannabis reform is taking place because people have a human right to access this powerful, often life-saving or life-transforming medicine. Countries such as Canada have recognised this, as have many other places, and changed their laws accordingly. Reports from such places show that cannabis reform has not turned societies into some form of ‘Reefer Madness,’ or caused the problems that those against cannabis reform often cite as reasons not to reform cannabis. Instead, cannabis reform has had very positive outcomes, especially in places where cannabis use has been decriminalised or fully legalised (e.g. a reduction cannabis use among young people, as well as a reduction in drug related crime).

This is the sort of reform we want to see in the United Kingdom. Free cannabis NOW!

THC is NOT the latest miracle cancer cure. Instead, science has KNOWN and consistently SHOWN that THC effectively shrinks tumours and kills cancer cells without harmful side effects for decades. During Canada's National Brain Tumour Conference (2018) discussed previously, Dr. Balmeaves spoke of the professional concerns of health professionals when they realised that children from several different families, all diagnosed with terminal cancer, were still alive when they should have died THREE YEARS previously. All of these families were using THC enriched cannabis oil (at that time illegal in Canada) to treat their children. These types of situations have become more frequent in the UK, especially among adult cancer patients, and they are difficult for the NHS to deal with because, at the end of the day, they took the Hippocratic oath ... but cannot advise or discuss cannabis oil in any form with patients - even when tests reveal the patient to be cancer free. That is such a difficult position for any health professional to have to deal with!

PUBLIC TESTIMONY AND STORIES 

There are currently thousands and thousands of people across the world using THC enriched cannabis oils to treat cancer, and this numbers continue to rise rapidly. As a result, more and more people are coming forward and testifying that it works publicly. These include: Joy Smith​, Deryn Blackwell, the Australian actress Oliver Newton-John, and Tommy Chong, one half of the comedian duo Cheech and Chong, and best known for the film Up in Smoke (1979). There are hundreds of Facebook groups, fan pages, YouTube videos, Instagram posts, blogs and other media outlets filled with people and groups making the same claim - THC is successfully treating their cancer. I am one of these people.
