CHANGE PELLS Ellis Defence legislation date to include 1/7/2015 - 1/8/2018 for survivors

The issue

Many survivors of child abuse who could not sue the Christian Brothers because of the Ellis/church defence can still NOT sue because of the date of the new legislation. Although the statute of limitations had been abolished on 1st of July 2015 the Christian Brothers could still not be sued because the Ellis/ Church defence was not abolished until 1 July 2018.
By making the cutoff date 1July 2015 many many survivors miss out and have no legal rights. The average time a victims reveals their trauma is at least 30 years!

This has a massive impact on survivors who are traumatised and distressed! Some by 1 or 2 days! They have fallen into “No Mans Land”. Again. Remembering these survivors were children often 8 to13 years old when raped and abused in the Christian Brothers Schools: Terrified and ashamed. Who has stood up for them?
ANY survivor with settlement deeds should be legally able to challenge the deeds no matter what the date! Including the 1st of July 2015 and onwards. The Christian Brothers knew these survivors had no recourse or signed away legal rights for paltry and insulting sums of money:: Pell was very clever. Overturning the Ellis/Catholic church defence is one step. The job is not done and other victims remain vulnerable.

Please change these dates so that ALL victims of the Catholic Church who have these insidious Deeds can sue the church no matter what the date.  Remembering that many did not conceive even talking about the abuse until many years later, having to relive it with church appointed psychiatrists then signing deeds because they were desperate, knowing they had no recourse and no future.

The survivors still need your help.
