The Issue

The future of Chinatown Night Market is in your hands! Tell the City we need infrastructural upgrades to Forsyth Plaza so we can keep the Night Market in Chinatown for years to come. We need electricity, lighting, and public bathrooms on the plaza to continue the Night Market.

Think!Chinatown started Chinatown Night Market at Forsyth Plaza in 2021 as "Chinatown Nights," an adhoc pandemic recovery program to bring more foot traffic into Chinatown in the evenings. Thanks to our many partners and volunteers, we’ve been able to activate an under-used public plaza to create a safe and culturally relevant space for our community. BUT, because of the lack of infrastructure in our public space, it’s proven too difficult for us to continue.

We’re proud to have created more opportunities to support Chinatown and API micro/small businesses at night. But for every Night Market at Forsyth Plaza, Think!Chinatown brings lights and electricity onto the site to power the entire community event. This requires a lot of time, money, and resources. Our last Night Market required SIX big generators ($$$) for a three-hour event!

Think!Chinatown is a small but mighty team. But for the Night Market to be sustainable, we desperately need infrastructural improvements at Forsyth Plaza. Upgrades will also provide better safety at night for our neighbors and also serve neighborhood produce vendors all year round. Let’s show the City what our incredible Chinatown community can do and help us advocate for infrastructural upgrades to Forsyth Plaza to ensure a sustainable future for Chinatown Night Market!

ABOUT THINK!CHINATOWN

Think!Chinatown is a place-based intergenerational non-profit in Manhattan’s Chinatown, working at the intersection of storytelling, arts, neighborhood engagement, and creative placekeeping. We believe the process of listening, reflecting and celebrating develops the community cohesion and trust necessary to work on larger neighborhood issues. By building strength from within our neighborhood, we can shape better policies and programs that define our public spaces, celebrate our cultural heritage and innovate how our collective memories are represented. T!C is the team powering the Chinatown Night Market, Chinatown Block Parties, Chinatown Arts Festival. Learn more at www.thinkchinatown.org
