Project U:nknown (Let's Make the Unknown, Known!)
The Issue
A brief explanation of the Unknown, by Dogon McBanana
"The Unknown" is a series of mostly barren test areas that were accidentally left in the game by the original developers. They could be accessed by bypassing the invisible walls that surround the game world and were not intended to be seen by players of the game. The original game's developers did everything in their power to keep people from getting to it, but a number of factors kept them from being able to devote their full attention to resolving the issue. We've successfully done what they intended to do from the start, which is make the unknown inaccessible to players, as it is not a part of the FusionFall world.
Why is this petition here?
After the recent Minor Update of 1.26.2019, the developers of FusionFall Retro have decided to come to an agreement and absolutely KILL the Unknown. This means that the area on your map titled Debug Land and that skull island south west of Orchid Bay are no longer accessible, while the Unknown was mainly just a way for the original Korean Grigon developers of Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall to store lairs, interiors and test areas, it soon became a FusionFall fan favorite area to go and explore, because. Well. There isn't much players can do at the endgame after defeating Lord Fuse and becoming Level 36, especially if they have already managed to max everything out as well as collect just about every known item to man in the game. So the players decide to venture out for new areas, unknown to the player base, this resulted in the Unknown becoming such a popular and widely spread topic around the community.
So what, it's a glitch, isn't it usually a good thing if glitches get patched?
While most of the time, it usually is great for glitches and bugs to be patched in a game or anything, this was the one bug that was loved by dozens of people, as it offered something else to do when the initial game map had gotten tired of. Here are some samples of what other FusionFallers' think of the Unknown and its unfortunate removal.

Hi!
I'm one of the BTAC members I'd like to put my opinion onto this post! But before I put my opinion...
Its not TBAC its BTAC (Bug Testers and Communication) Pistol Spaceair...
The unknown wasn't suppose to be accessed at all. Players from the OG FusionFall managed to get to the unknown in 2 ways.
1. Using the games mechanics
2. Hacking (which what most players did).
The unknown is like a hidden post-game for FusionFall. It's cool to look at new locations and see whats behind those big walls! However... If you allow players to go to the unknown then we're in a messy situation. Not many players know how to stay safe in unknown safely and using that "warp away" button resulting to losing their characters they worked hard on.
FusionFall is not only known for collecting all ultra rares, nanos, and becoming lvl 36. FusionFall was nostalgia for exploring the unknown too. Retro is suppose to be a throwback to the original game but we're getting content that is far superior than the original. Removing the unknown defeats the purpose of being Retro because the OG had a lot of people exploring the unknown. I am NOT happy to see the unknown removed in FusionFall Retro.
This game doesn't feel Retro anymore. It feels like I'm playing FusionFall PROJECT REVIVE!
We can sit, own unreleased items, new chat, I like it! But removing the unknown just doesn't feel right.
~Conclusion
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOOOOO
alright
1.Objection! The project revive demo had its own secret back door that could lead you behind the walls, people have done it before. PS Eva Beta is on the island.
2.Your opinion is valid. you're right many people did only still play Fusionfall just because of the unknown. We were lucky that Fusionfall had something like this and i know that it is a problem for normal ff players, that doesn't change the fact that it still counts as removing fanservice. After level 36 there isn't really much to do except for just grinding, helping friends out with missions or just hang out with them.
3.I thought they have said during streams that retro is hack proof, so that concludes what they have said during the stream. I personally think about it how they still mentioned that it's impossible to reach the unknown, yet players were able to reach it.
4.I do get your point on why it is unprofessional, but all games aren't perfect. Believe it or not, exploits such as the Unknown was loved by many and their most favorite place was as we all know, Debug Land! It featured content that wasn't in any normal area of the game and was the perfect place to hang out with friends.
5.If normal player keep having problems such as these then why not make a button in the settings to turn the Unknown off? A lot of people hate the new chat GUI. Player prefer the old chat, its really big, takes a lot of space and just makes it really inconvenience for a lot of players. We are lucky that we have a switch to turn this annoying thing off. Although it has a good design but it isn't really suited to be retro or that big in general. Why not do the same with The Unknown? When players try to warp to friends that are in the Unknown but they have turned it off then it would give a message just like how players are in infected zone or fusion lairs. If the switch is set on on then it would remove all the new patched walls and make the Unknown more accessible for a lot of players, this way there is no need to start hacking.
And if a player ever got stuck in the unknown, why not make him warp to sector v when he reuses his character, just like how people got back to sector v after exploring the academy.
6.I do understand that the decision is made, but i always think there is hope. If players don't understand a thing about the unknown, why not make a video about it and release the unknown? Or something even better, why not cooperate with the BTAC team and make them explain how it works. It's a mistake by the original developers to make it possible for people to reach it. (they could have easily made roof for example.) But this mistake is loved by many and a lot of peoples hearts are broken because of this.
7.A pop up system could work even though its a pretty weak security for the unknown, but still could work out if it got more strictly.
8.Everybody should know how the unknown works and it should become a main thing like access your bank, using your nano etc. I know for a fact that it's gonna be messy, but if the devs made it exactly clear on how it works then it wouldn't be such a problem.
I hope i have made some good points in this reply and I'm really curious to see your responses.

Well this is controversial.
Time to add my 2 cents in the topic: While i feel that removing the Unknown was a bad idea, it was never intended to be accesible to begin with.Yes i liked the idea of visiting it but even then i knew it wasnt meant to be there.
I dont support the idea of removing it, but not the idea of keeping it either. Im pretty neutral on this case.

Alternatively, why not just make a path to the Unknown? It's clearly a controversial and large part of the community, to the point that this backlash makes it seem as though an established area like City Station was removed, so why not slap a couple secret end game quests into the world that allow people to explore the area? That way it stays in game, no exploits are needed to find it, and it officially becomes a part of the game. There's apparently several bosses the devs have waiting in the wings and since they aren't afraid of drastically altering the game, why not double down and compromise? I think the Gatekeeper was a high level big boy who's graphics were uploaded before OGs Birthday Bash, so there ya go, a perfectly named dude for a mini-expansion.

Though it is possible for players to get outside the game map through normal means and using only the game mechanics to do so, we've had several cases of players abusing hacks to do so. Allowing the exploration of the out of bounds areas of the game incentivizes this behavior and is just unprofessional from a game design standpoint. We also then have to investigate every single case of players exploring outside the game map, and it can sometimes lead to unfair advantages for some players, like if Past players make their way to the Future area of the game.
More importantly, on several occasions, players have warped to others that were in the unknown and gotten stuck. Yes, I know its a button click away to get back to the main world, but there are a surprising amount of players that simply aren't aware and wind up with stuck characters.
I guess the point is that leaving the entire out of bounds area of the map is unprofessional and leads to a ton of inconveniences on pretty much everyone. This was the most elegant solution we could figure out to solving the issue. As an aside, characters that are in the unknown should be able to warp away or warp to a friend to make their way back to the main part of the game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think one of the problems the dev team is worried about is what happens if you just leave a known area outside normal, intended maps available for people. Yes, old players who really got into the original FF knew how to get to the Unknown, but the point still stands they were never intended to. These are not secret areas, they are breaks in a map that were never meant to be accessed. Someone who has access to the game's code that knows these areas are accessible, professionally, would either try to remove those breaks or add secrets there for players to find.
And clearly, the Retro team seems intent on the former. Leaving these areas in game only creates incentive for people to go find those areas...regardless of how they do it. There may be more people inspired to find these areas through legitimate map bugs, but several lazier people will just hack their way in. Which is the worry I hear Retro staff mentioning, entirely understandably. When you're trying to handle a multiplayer game, having one player break the game's code is objectively unbalancing the experience between two players, and I'm not certain that's what a game dev should strive for or encourage.
