While Iran's regime is killing and torturing unarmed civilians and innocent children in Iran, many universities around the world have the flag of this regime on their walls as if it represents the Iranian students. But it does NOT. The "Islamic" Regime does not represent the Iranian people.

Here, we demand taking down this flag and replacing it with another flag that represents the Iranian people. There are several other flags that can potentially represent Iranians. But at this time, we need to unite under a common flag that represents all Iranians with any political orientation.

One option is the flag with the lion and sun. Unfortunately, there are different versions of that flag and each one has a different political implication. Also, some people believe it indicates monarchy which many oppose. The flags with words also have some political implications, especially the choice of language (English or Persian) would be controversial. 

There are two flags that are neutral and can represent all the Iranian people. One is without any symbol inside. And one is with a simple map of Iran inside. The one without anything inside can be mistaken for the flag of Italy or Hungary if hung vertically. But the flag with the map of Iran is the least controversial option that represents all Iranians. It can be used as a temporary substitute until a truly elected government chooses a permanent flag.

In any case, the flag with the symbol of the "Islamic Republic" is not acceptable and must be taken down as soon as possible. It represents a regime that burns down other countries' flags in public. They never allow raising the US flag anywhere in Iran let alone in a university. They even make people walk on it as a sign of disrespect. Please see the following:
