Sharks are crucial for the survival of our global oceans. Allowing the import of shark products into the state of Florida allows a market, responsible for the slaughter of these apex predators, to exist. Florida should be proud of the healthy shark population within its waters and not allow a shark in a jar to be the essence of what the state is defined as. There is no need for the distribution of jaws, teeth, fetuses or other items from these animals within the state. If the import of these items is banned then they will not be able to be sold on stores and thus the demand will be reduced. If there is no market then there is no money for the companies that are wiping out these animals. We must speak with our wallets and not support this disgusting trade. It is a global issue, but we must act locally to start the movement. Tourism is a massive industry and Florida and stopping the sale of shark products will have a positive impact.
