Can you imagine 2,000 people shouting "Kill the Faggot"? - That is exactly what will most likely take place on August 26, when Mexican band Motolov performs at The Fillmore Silver Spring.
The band has been unapologetic, stating the fact that there have been few complaints in recent years indicate society condones such language and the old excuse that, despite using homophobic slur (puto, maricón, marica, joto), they didn't actually mean LGBTQ people.
Although "Puto" is not their only song to use homophobic slurs, it is the most shocking stating: “I love the murderer; kill the faggot.” It also happens to be their most often played song in concerts.
While Silver Spring celebrates recent landmarks in the fight for equality, summer of 2013 has already registered six attacks against members of the LGBTQ community in the DC area, including a transgender woman who was stabbed 35 to 40 times.
That is why we request The Fillmore Silver Spring to not condone this sort of message and cancel the concert.
It is time to halt such messages of hate. It is time to demonstrate that slurs against sexual minorities are not tolerated. Risks remain high and allies must take a stronger position on the right side of history. It is now the time to determine whether action will be taken or whether Silver Spring will vibe with 2,000 people shouting at unison “Death to the faggot.”
It is time for The Fillmore Silver Spring to decide whether homophobic messages will be spread at their venue.

I hereby request you to not provide a venue for Molotov. Anti-LGBTQ slurs cannot be condoned. The pervasiveness of such language overshadows recent historical achievements in favor of the LGBTQ community.
Please be on the right side of history.
