The Federal Parliament of Australia: Protect Australian Children - Ban Gambling Ads During Family TV Times
This petition had 207 supporters
The urgent need to protect Australian children from being exposed to gambling advertising is highlighted by numerous peer reviewed expert studies.
Australia already has an enormous prevalence of problem gambling, and research shows that problem gamblers typically develop these behaviours during adolescence. Children are our most valuable and vulnerable citizens, and exposing them to a potential life of misery via enticements to gamble during family TV viewing times is in my view unconscionable for our society.
Problem gambling negatively affects not only the addict, but also their families, their friends and society in general. Having been exposed to problem gambling throughout my life I can speak truthfully about the absolute misery it causes in the lives of both the addict and their loved ones.
The current mood is one demanding immediate change from the current practice of saturation gambling advertising during family viewing times.
I implore you to sign this petition and request that you please send it to your family and friends in order to protect this, and future generations of children from gambling advertising.
