Why this petition matters

Started by Ukraine Manuel

“It is better to be confident than to shame it.”

By signing this petition, we hope that our government and other private companies will take into consideration the fact that people with disabilities can live normal life, go to work, and freely pursue their goals away from discrimination. We, students, aim to increase awareness to people concerning the well-being of people with disabilities and somehow change their perspectives and preconceived notions about them.

Our petition is focused entirely on the challenges that individuals with disabilities face on a daily basis. We are all aware that some people are unable to work due to their disabilities and the discrimination they experience; as a result, they suffer from low self-esteem, mental health issues, etc. which they have to endure. They are unable to seek jobs to meet their daily needs and support their families. We want to raise our voices for them on this issue, help them regain their self-esteem, and provide them with work that will enable them to succeed.

Individuals with disabilities also need fair treatment. No person is perfect, and so as people with disabilities. Just like us, people like them have innate special capabilities and talents; therefore, they can also contribute to society. However, equality is not always the solution, it is equity; people with disabilities should be treated regarding what they need.

We Peoples are determined in our resolve to declare our belief in fundamental human rights, in the worth and dignity of every human being, in the equality of men and women, and in the rights of all nations, big and little. All people are born free, with equal rights and respect.
Encouraging initiatives that provide disabled persons the chance to be treated equally and have the ability to support themselves, and experience less social alienation is urgently needed. Regardless of whether they have a disability or not, every person has inherent dignity and deserves to be valued.

Our perception about people with disability is that it will be difficult for them to contribute to society and they do not have the same needs, desires, or feelings as typical individuals, and therefore are not entitled to the same rights and considerations as typical individuals. Treating them fairly has been neglected, and now, this is our opportunity to help them; let us open our hearts and our minds to them. Their capabilities should be known and acknowledged, too.
