Petition updateThe existing School System.....Not fit for Purpose!#InclusionNOW Rally Successes!
QCIE Queensland Collective for Inclusive EducationBrisbane, Australia
Nov 6, 2022

To our wonderful supporters, allies, fellow advocates, families and friends,

The Brisbane #InclusionNOW Rally was a huge success!

Many people gathered at Parliament house in Brisbane to call for the needed transformation of our education system so that #InclusionNOW becomes a reality for all students, including those with a disability!

The speeches were both heartbreaking and extremely uplifting and powerful in messages of Inclusive Education in Queensland.

We saw members of Parliament House come out onto the balconies to hear the speeches, take photos of the Rally and the chalk messages written by Rally attendees,  and to see what the protest was about!

You can listen to all the speeches from the Rally on both our Facebook page, and our website on the link attached!

We marched loudly and proudly with a Police Escort as we stopped traffic in busy city streets!

We struck up conversations with interested members of the public and had our voices heard by thousands as we passed by the many businesses that line the city streets with a busy lunchtime crowd!

Some of the wonderful outcomes from the Rally include inspiring other Advocacy groups and families from around Australia to join in having a 'day of action' in their own States or Territories in Australia!

Gathering both Australia wide, and international understanding, momentum and solidarity in the fight for Inclusive Education in schools! Our Rally was twinned with an Inclusive Education Rally in Madrid, Spain just three days prior. This really is a global issue, we are not alone!

We had a beautiful member of our community hand deliver our Rally's purpose, messages from families, and our demands for change, to the Director General of Queensland Education, Michael De'Ath (his representative) whilst our large gathering of Rally participants stood united in front of 1 William Street in Brisbane. Placards displayed proudly alongside Rally chants and high spirits for change!

As we wove our way through the city in bright colours, with our banners, placards, balloons and chants for InclusionNOW! we concluded outside Education House, 30 Mary Street with our student voices loudly calling for change and sharing messages of "Imagine If...." for future changes to Education and Incusion!

Leaving many placards and clear and heartfelt messages calling for change at the doors of Education House, we felt united, strong and inspired to harness the fire in our souls for such an important change!

This is not the end.....there are many more exciting and powerful projects in the 'works', so please SHARE this update, the Change.org petition and lets send the strong message in Australia that we are NOT going to sit down and be quiet about Inclusive Education in Australia!

Please help us in maintaining the momentum and get this issue the political attention and media coverage it deserves!

In solidarity,

The QCIE team and supporters.
