As citizens and residents of Europe, we call upon the European Union leadership to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement until Israel ends its brutal and indiscriminate mass killing of civilians, withdraws its troops from the Gaza Strip, lifts the blockade, and abides by its obligations under international law.

The EU's trade agreement with Israel dates back to 1995, with the current Association Agreement entering into force in 2000. In 2012, total trade under the Agreement amounted to €33 billion. The Agreement is conditional upon a respect for human rights and democratic principles.

European leaders have condemned the indiscriminate killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip and the settlements and associated activity on the West Bank, yet Israel would not be able to carry out its brutal mass killings and maintain its repressive regime without the support of the EU and the United States. While the European Council has imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia for its role in the Ukraine conflict, Israel is being rewarded for its mass killings with favourable trade relations and tacit political support. This is contrary to the democratic will of the citizens and residents of Europe. People in Europe and around the world are currently taking matters into their own hands by participating in the BDS (Boycotts, Divestment, and Sanctions) Movement, which takes its inspiration from the successful boycott campaign that helped bring the South African apartheid regime to an end. It is high time for our democratically elected leaders to take heed of public opinion, demonstrate respect for human rights and the sanctity of life, and act now to stop Israel's brutal and unjustified assault upon and occupation of the Palestinian people. We call upon you, the elected representatives and commissioners of the European Union, to immediately suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement. Israel must be made to respect its obligations under international law, which ultimately includes an end to the illegal occupation and a recognition of the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine.

En tant que citoyens et résidents de l’Europe, nous appelons les dirigeants de l’Union européenne de suspendre l’Accord d’Association UE-Israël jusqu’à ce qu’Israël cesse son massacre brutal et aveugle de civils palestiniens, retire ses soldats de la bande de Gaza, lève le blocus et respecte ses obligations en vertu du droit international.

L’accord commercial entre l'UE et l’Israël remonte à 1995, avec l’Accord d'Association entrant en vigueur en 2000. En 2012, le commerce total sous l’accord s’est élevé à 33 million d’euros. L'accord est conditionné au respect des droits de l'homme et des principes démocratiques.

Les dirigeants européens ont condamné le massacre aveugle de civils dans la bande de Gaza et la colonisation de la Cisjordanie, mais l’Israël n’auraient pas pu mener ces massacres brutaux et maintenir son régime répressif sans le soutien de l'UE et les États-Unis. Alors que le Conseil européen a imposé des sanctions draconiennes à la Russie pour son rôle dans le conflit en Ukraine, l’Israël est récompensé pour ses massacres par les relations commerciales favorables et le soutien politique tacite. Ceci est contraire à la volonté démocratique des citoyens et des résidents de l'Europe. Le peuple de l’Europe et du monde prennent les choses en main actuellement en participant aux BDS (boycott, désinvestissement et sanctions) Movement, un mouvement inspiré par la campagne de boycottage qui a contribué à mettre fin au régime d'apartheid d'Afrique du Sud. Il est grand temps que nos dirigeants démocratiquement élus reconnaissent l'opinion publique, fassent preuve de leur respect pour les droits humains et la sainteté de la vie, et agissent pour arrêter l’agression brutale et injustifiée contre le peuple palestinien. Nous vous appelons, les élus et les commissaires de l'Union européenne, de suspendre immédiatement l'Accord d'Association UE-Israël. L’Israël doit être obligé à respecter ses obligations en vertu du droit international, y compris un terme à l'occupation illégale et une reconnaissance du droit à l'autodétermination du peuple de Palestine.
