Make the Carnon River safe for people, dogs and wildlife

The Issue

The Carnon River in Cornwall is managed by the Environment Agency. In places between Twelveheads and Devoran, the river is a death trap. It is narrow, deep and impossible to escape.

Several tragedies involving dogs have happened here recently, the most recent was the death of Luna, a beautiful 5 month old puppy. Luna's death has highlighted this issue and has prompted this petition.

1, The fencing around the river is inadequate. It needs wire installed to prevent dogs from entering the danger area.

2, The river needs opening out and the underground sections need uncovering to prevent drowning.

3, Escape points need to be installed to allow people or animals to escape as the banks are too high and slippery.

4, Adequate signage that properly identifies the hazards need installing at regular intervals.

We believe these simple measures that are relatively inexpensive are necessary to prevent further loss of life.
