As early as 2003, Social Work was declared a scarce skill and critical profession. According to the National Development Plan, the country needs 55 000 social workers by 2030. Currently over 10000 Qualified Social Workers are unemployed. As the Unemployed Social Workers Movement we want the South African Government to employ these graduates on a full time basis instead of the monthly contract that start from 2 months up to 24 months. 

This is an exploitation of these professionals, as they render services to the clients and get paid up to R6000,00 a month. We want the internships scrapped for qualified Social Workers.
