I wanted to start this petition from the heart. I was born a city girl and have recently moved to the country. I have seen SO MANY people who have had to loose their hens in the county because of "the lack of space" Not only are people loosing thier chickens, their families are being ripped apart. You see, when you raise chickens you raise them from birth. They become family and children become very attached as well. 

There are many large cities across the country that are allowing 'backyard chickens', such as Baltimore city, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, and Houston, TX. 

Even other cities in Maryland are allowing chickens, such as Annapolis City, Aberdeen, Salisbury, Rockville.  Several counties with no land rules where chickens are allowed  Anne Arundel County, Frederick county, Prince Georges County, Takoma park. 

Contrary to what most might believe about chickens - a rooster is not necessary to have in a flock of hens.  Hens will still lay eggs without a rooster.

Most city ordinances don't allow roosters due to noise but a small flock of hens is hardly any more rambunctious or distracting that a group of kids or a single dog.  Right now the zoning says that we must have at least 1 acre of land to have chickens. The same rules apply to horses and cows.  Chickens by far need a lot less room.

We are asking for a chance to be HEARD, to answer questions and share some facts about chickens.  Owning Chickens have so many benefits for so many, We are just asking for a chance to allow this to be allowed :)
