Demand that Mayor Gray and DC Department of Health abandon the 2nd draft of proposed body art regulations and seek further education on body art practices before proposing further regulations.
Demand that Mayor Gray and DC Department of Health abandon the 2nd draft of proposed body art regulations and seek further education on body art practices before proposing further regulations.
The Issue
The second draft of regulations is filled with bizarre rules that are impossible to comply with and demonstrate an incomplete understanding of body art practices. Here are just a few examples: 1.The proposed regulations require the use of “hollow” needles for tattooing, which do not exist. This would effectively make all tattooing a violation of the regulations. 2.The proposed regulations prohibit the use of manufacturers or suppliers not registered with the D.C. Department of Health. No tattoo suppliers are registered with the Department of Health and there are no instructions on how they can register. This would make ordering tattoo and piercing supplies a violation of the regulations. 3.The proposed regulations require the posting of signs informing consumers to report the business to the “Radiation Protection Division” of the D.C. Department of Health if they “believe” that they have “been injured” in the shop. Please join me in urging the Mayor’s office and D.C. Health Department to abandon these embarrassing proposals and to draft regulations worthy of our nation’s capital.
