Ban wild animal circuses in Ireland

Ban wild animal circuses in Ireland

The Issue

Recently a travelling circus that uses wild animals came to my town. They traveled a long way to Ireland with these poor animals because they were banned in their own country and now we fear we will become the dumping ground for wild animal circuses.

A century ago there were 200,000  lions in the wild, today there are only 20,000 of them living in Africa. Elephant numbers have decreased from 200,000 to 35,000 in the same space of time. We have the power to protect them, yet many circuses capture them, torture them until they learn tricks and make them constantly travel, confined to boxcars, trailers, or trucks for days at a time in extremely hot and cold weather, often without access to basic necessities such as food, water, and veterinary care. Elephants are chained, and big cats, bears, and primates are confined to cramped and filthy cages in which they eat, drink, sleep, defecate, and urinate—all in the same place.

Often these animals rebel from years of torture and beatings and are killed through no fault of their own. They are taken from their natural habitat and forced to  adjust to an unfamiliar world. These are wild animals who will not be tamed and most definitely are not made for our entertainment.

17 countries in Europe have banned circuses who use wild animals! Therefore these circuses are travelling long distances to Ireland!! I want Ireland to follow suit. If you would like to see these animals released from their torture please sign this petition and boycott any circuses that use animals.

Thank you
