The CTA Must Stop Laying Off Good Workers!

The CTA Must Stop Laying Off Good Workers!
The Issue
Since 2018, the CTA has been exploiting men and women through the Second Chance Program. These workers are assigned 40-hour workweeks at a little more than $15/hour. Unlike Full-Time Permanent employees doing the same dangerous work, they lack:
- Dental insurance.
- Pension.
- Clothing allowance.
- Paid vacations.
- Full grievance/arbitration rights.
- Holiday pay.
- Night premium pay.
- Short-term disability.
- Seniority, work location and schedule picking rights.
- Can be laid off—or promoted—arbitrarily after 12 months.
Moreover, the CTA is violating their Contractual limitations by assigning them dangerous duties such as Exterior Wash, which has chemicals that burns their skin, eyes and lungs.
Cruel mismanagers harass and punish those who complain about the injuries. Some are written up and discriminated against when applying for other Full-Time CTA jobs.
What makes this even worse is that the CTA mismanagement is always whining about not having enough employees. Sometimes they call us lazy. Who are these lazy people they describe? I never met them—especially in the Second Chance Program!
Signing this petition will tell the CTA that you do not support the abuse of its employees and that you want the Second Chance Program to be a direct path to Full-Time Employment—and that the employees in it can only be assigned limited duties as explained in the Agreement O and Agreement N.
Moreover, if they do not make these changes, the Second Chance Program must be dissolved.
