Formally induct Adrienne Shelly's 2007 film "WAITRESS" into the Criterion Collection

The Issue

WHEREAS the critically-acclaimed 2007 independent motion picture Waitress has only received an outdated bare-bones DVD release with no special features whatsoever, despite holding a "Certified Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes;

WHEREAS the film has not only amassed a dedicated cult following, but also spawned a record-breaking and wildly-successful Broadway musical adaptation featuring music and lyrics by international pop star Sara Bareilles;

WHEREAS the Criterion Collection stands at the forefront of independent film restoration, "dedicated to publishing important classic and contemporary films from around the world in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements," per their own mission statement;

WHEREAS the 2007 motion picture Waitress is both important and outstanding in its field for a multitude of reasons — but especially for the fact that it was written and directed by a woman in an industry that has historically sought to make such a feat as difficult as possible; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the beacon of cinema goodness that is the Criterion Collection goes about adding the late Adrienne Shelly's auteur "dramedic" masterwork to their highly-esteemed ranks, thus further satisfying throngs of movie-lovers and further insuring the protection of important cinema and further bringing to fruition their noble mission to present films "as [their] maker would want [them] seen, in state-of-the-art restorations with special features designed to encourage repeated watching and deepen the viewer’s appreciation of the art of film."
