The Council have ruined our section of the Stafford Road - they need to put it right
Why this petition matters
The recent works to the central reservation on the Stafford Road in Oxley were hailed as an 'enhancement' for the city with Councillor Steve Evans, Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for city environment and climate change, saying: “This is one of main routes into the city of Wolverhampton. We are investing £480,000 to make improvements that will make it safer and enhance the appearance of this key arterial route."
The works however have actually devalued the area. Green vegetation and wooden fencing have been completely ripped out and replaced with ugly industrial anti-pedestrian fencing preventing residents from crossing the road, grass and shrubs have been replaced with tarmac, and high Trief kerbing has been overly installed at great expense and without good reason.
Local shops have lost business, local residents are cut off from convenient access and Oxley has effectively been cut in half.
We want Wolverhampton Council to give us back our ability to cross the road and conveniently access the local shops and amenities, to give us back our shrubs and to reduce the use of ugly fencing and high kerbing that has ruined our road and we want them to actually improve and enhance our environment as promised.
