Waroona is a small country town in between Pinjarra and Harvey in Western Australia. It is a very basic town with very little infrastructure. We have no major shopping centres, no malls, no theatres...in fact we don't have much of anything. Our shire rates have increased around 20% over the last 3 years, and my concern is that the shire has done nothing to deserve such increases. I have spoke to them personally about rates and all I get is indifference and ridicule. The shire is out of touch with the hardships of the local community. We are paying the same (if not more) rates as other suburbs who have sound infrastructure and it is not fair that we should be paying such monies when the shire does little to improve our town. I think as a community we have the right to question what the shire does with our money and we should see results. Not that long ago the Shire built new offices at the cost of $2 million....why?? Clearly Waroona shire has failed to provide our town with the necessary infrastructure to warrant such rate increases. They are simply not doing their job. I believe that the shire needs to be amalgamated into either the Pinjarra or Harvey Shires, because their towns are much more dynamic than our town, and it appears that those shires get things done.
