James Craig started this petition to Bradford Council (Bradford Council) and

A permit has been submitted for the proposed Installation of a 300KW Biomass Incinerator (Pictured) in the heart of Idle/Greengates, at:

Unit 46A, Albion Mills, Albion Road, Greengates, BD10 9TQ.

Information can be found at the following links;

Link 1 / Link 2 / Link 3 / Map of Area

The incinerator is to be used by Nabru Ltd, a self-assembly sofa manufacturer, who will burn their waste wood, causing not just harmful emissions, but dust as well.

This incinerator is located directly within a stone's throw from residential properties, local companies and most importantly, a school, namely Parkland Primary School, from which their playground looks directly on to the incinerator.

As can be seen on the following map; Map

Please note, this incinerator has already being set up, pending the approval of their permit, an expenditure I would not risk, as a company, in-case the permit is refused, which would suggest they're confident it won't be.

The surrounding areas have some of the highest emission rates in Bradford (Source), an incinerator adding to this would lead to major effects on air quality, not just will this affect the air, it will affect our health:

Upon reading one article I have read that: "burning wood biomass emits as much, if not more, air pollution than burning fossil fuels—particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, lead, mercury, and other hazardous air pollutants—which can cause cancer or reproductive effects. The air pollution from biomass facilities, which the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association have called a danger to public health, produces respiratory illnesses, heart disease, cancer, and developmental delays in children."

- I can neither confirm nor deny the above severity of these emissions but surely it's not a risk any locals would be willing to take.

I don't feel enough is currently, nor will be done to stop this incinerators 'environmental permit' being passed, due to the very little confidence I/We have in the council.  I'm told by Bradford Council that:

1) The consultation period has not yet closed and responses are still being received.

2) Each and every consultation response that we receive will be given full consideration during our decision-making process.

3) No permit has been granted to the operator that has submitted the application for the boiler.

Currently Bradford council have just an email address for which concerns can be raised, which is as follows; Eh.admin@bradford.gov.uk

I/We would like for Bradford council to refuse the environmental permit for the use of an incinerator in this area.

I started this petition because…
I don't feel enough is currently, nor will be done to stop this incinerator environmental permit being passed, I have little to no confidence in the council and I live and work in the area and I have doubts in the council's ability to see the bigger picture.
