After viewing the first Presidential debate of 2020, one can’t help but question how the American public can truly hear the ideas and plans of either candidate if the event is riddled with interruptions and the candidates talking over one another.

How can we, the American voters, hear the thoughts and approaches to policy and platform if we aren’t able to actually hear the speaker? How can either candidate properly develop a thought or argument if they are never able to respectfully have the floor? The American public deserves an opportunity to hear ideas, not playground bullying and childish interruptions. We must know who and what we are voting for.

In an effort to ensure clearer future debates, the undersigned are requesting that a strict microphone muting protocol is employed so that only one candidate can be heard at a time, per the rules and regulations of the debate. This request honors the time and platform-building space of each candidate, but most importantly it is an act of respect to the American voter.
