The National Weather Service has announced that on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019, temperatures are set to be in the -40s. Extreme cold conditions like this can cause exposed skin to freeze within 10 minutes.

Although the campus is not as large as most state universities, many students are required to walk around 10 minutes or longer to get to class, especially from housings on the edges of campus such as Iceman and Schoolhouse. Not only does this put student health at risk, but also that of the faculty and staff, many of which who must drive 20 or more minutes to get to the college. 

Students, faculty, and staff should not be required to be outside unless deemed absolutely necessary. Class attendance should not be mandatory on the specified date nor should students face penalization for opting to not subject themselves to such dangerous conditions.
