Hi everyone! This morning, I received an email from the College Board's Vice-President International Linda Liu. Her email addressed the letter I wrote to Trevor Packer, head of the AP Program, last Friday. She also included an informational insert detailing additional supports that will be provided to AP students with nighttime test schedules. Both the email and informational insert can be viewed here.
Below is a summary of Ms. Liu’s main points, but if you have the time, I highly encourage you all to read the full email.
- U.S. admissions officers have reaffirmed that they understand the difficult circumstances some students outside the U.S. are in.
- If students choose to take the exam and are not pleased with their scores, they will have a free opportunity to take a College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) test to earn credit.
- At times convenient for students outside the U.S., there will be dedicated live online exam prep sessions that will provide an overview of the tasks and the scoring process.
So, what does this mean for our petition? This petition was created with one purpose in mind: to secure alternate AP exam start times for international students. While I appreciate the College Board’s efforts to support students based overseas, they continue to avoid the most obvious question: Why can’t at least one additional version of the test be created? Until the College Board offers a reasonable answer, this petition is not over.
