Please add your name to the list of environmentally conscious members of The Claremont Consortium and stand with us in demanding the remaining four schools end the use of rodenticide on campus. Whether you are a student, alumni, staff, and parent we need your help in pushing the administrations to do what is right for our critical coastal sage scrub environment. Pitzer has already led the charge in banning the use of rodenticide and instead turned to traps, and we must push the other Claremont Colleges to follow this trajectory of environmental consciousness.

The use of rodenticide at the 5C's has had an enormous impact on non-target animals in the ecosystem, such as coyotes, cougars, owls, hawks, and mountain lions. When rodents consume rodenticide they do not die quickly. They instead suffer a long and painful death in which they become weak and slow, making them the easiest target for predators. When non-target carnivores consume these poisoned rodents, the toxins absorb into their digestion as well, leading to a bioaccumulation of toxins and death of these species. 

We urge The Claremont Colleges to lead the charge in this fight against rodenticide in Claremont and stop its usage on campus now! By following Pitzer's lead and transitioning to rat traps, we can save the non-target carnivores in our area, and preserve the abundance of species in our ecosystem.
