Repeal the BSL Ban Against Pit Bulls and Bully Type Breeds in Williston, ND
Repeal the BSL Ban Against Pit Bulls and Bully Type Breeds in Williston, ND
The Issue
Some are aware that there is a "Breed Specific Legislation" Law against Pitbulls in Williston, ND. Fellow Pit Bull and dog lovers are against this; as shown in the facts below, Pit Bulls used to be the most-preferred dogs in America, and are actually among one of the the nicest breeds.
A concern is that the BSL ban is steering some families away from Williston because they are not able to move into city limits. Some have had to move out of Williston's city limits so they don't get their family pet taken away. When Pit Bulls or dogs resembling pitbulls are rescued from around the area they don't stand a very good chance of being rehomed and are euthanized if the search for a home is unsuccesful due to this ban.
In World War I, Pit Bulls represented America and the military; but not because they attacked people, they actually weren't even used for hunting anything, they just guarded the base.According to the American Temperament Testing Association (ATTA) American Pit Bull Terriers have an 85.3% friendly temperament passing rate vs. 81.9% in all other breeds. This means that Pit Bulls are about 3.4% friendlier than ALL other dogs. It has been proven that a dogs appearance or pedigree does not affect the dogs temperament, so while Pit Bulls may look intimidating, they rarely ever bite people; as shown in the facts below (Provided by The American Humane Society) :
Fact VS Myth:—-Pit bulls are impervious to pain.
FALSE! While some pit bulls may be more tolerant to pain, there is no such ANIMAL that is resistant to pain.
-—Pit bulls have jaws and teeth like sharks.
FALSE! Structurally there is no difference between a pit bull and any other canine breeds bone structure. Furthermore, sharks have rows of teeth. Most of which do not sit on the jaw bone itself. Also shark teeth are serrated, and canine teeth, including a pit bull’s, are not.
-—Pit bull attacks are unprovoked and without warning.
FALSE! It is impossible to pin point one reason as to why any breed of dog attacks. There is usually more information that is not considered in each individual case of an attack that the public is not given. However, what is true is that dogs have evolved over thousands of years and use communication by body language and vocalization.
-—Pit bulls inflict wounds unlike any other breed.
FALSE! Since 1875 there have been numerous accounts of all breeds of canines attacking in the same fashion as the “hold and shake”. Furthermore, this attribute can be seen everyday when dogs of all breeds play with toys or small vermin. It is not specific to the Pit bull breedI, and millions of other individuals and organizations, are completely against this breed discrimination. I urge you to allow Pit Bulls in Williston.
Thank you for your time.Sincerely,
