Fresh Water Supply for the Homeless Residents on 135a in Surrey, BC

Fresh Water Supply for the Homeless Residents on 135a in Surrey, BC

The Issue

Two years ago a temporary fresh water fountain was installed atop a fire hydrant so that the homeless residents on 135a street in Surrey, BC always had access to water during the hot summer months.  Last year it was not installed which led to many health problems as well as a great deal of bottled water having to be purchased by outside resources to keep them hydrated.  This year we have already seen very high temperatures and the need is great.  The homeless are now not allowed to keep their tents up during the day so this also leaves them without further shelter from the sun.  I am begging the City of Surrey to allow the Fire Dept to again install this temporary fountain.  The homeless have said that if supplies are made readily available at the local shelter, that they will maintain the fountain with the supplies to keep it clean and sanitary as this was one of the City's reasons for not installing it.  Everyone deserves the right to clean drinking water,  especially during these hot summer months.  Please help me put the ball in motion to make this happen!
